Orange grabs another victory from Green Team, winning the Cup by ‘a long shot’.
This time of the year sees Kommetjie dividing into two teams. The school colours of maroon, black and white is transformed into Green and Orange. These two fiercely competitive teams compete for the ‘Cup’ and the ‘Singing Cup’ as well as individual medals. The Teams compete for first, second and third in field and track events, but it’s the latter that brings in the points.
The ‘Field events ‘consist of High Jump, Long Jump and Shot Put. The ‘Track Events’ are the 80m and 100m sprints, the 50m relays done by the Foundation Phase, the 4× 100m Intermediate relays and the tiring Long Distance.
The individual cups are awarded to the top boy and girl sprinters in each age group. The u/7 (under seven) cups went to Matthew Bowes and Shaylyn Charles and the u/8 ones to Blake Bolton and Mieshkah Moses. Kieron Parris and Michaela Ing were awarded the u/9 cups while Abigail Busslo earned the u/10 girls cup. The u/10 Boys cup was shared by Daniel Schorr-Seymour and Robbie Miller. Julia Ploughman got the cup for Green and Zachary Hassenfuss the cup for Orange in the u/11 sprints. Orange Team dominated the u/12 with Megan Constant and Ryan Young winning it for their home teams. Ryan Young was also awarded the Brian Park trophy as he won the u/12 100m sprints. The Trophy was donated by Mr Brian Park in 1935. The U/13’s were also seeing orange as Michaela Pretorius and Roland Wozniak each received a cup.
Over all it was an exciting day and both teams gave it their all. The Green Team won the ‘Singing Cup’ but sadly for them their singing wasn’t enough to stop Orange trampling all over them in the events and winning the cup again.
